This is of my own personal opinion concerning the state of the PC Gaming community.
As we all know, since the release of MW-2 we (PC Gamers) have suffered thru some drastic turn of events. Gone are the PC games with true dedicated servers, MOD tools, access to server files & even the in-game console commands. Also disappearing is the ability to record in dev mode and in some games, the mere ability to go prone as a stinking sniper.
It appears that MW-2 has set the bar for developing PC games solely based on the sales figures. Now the gaming industry is following suit by releasing games with partial or controlled dedicated servers e.g. Activision w/ BFBC-2 and also the Oct release of MOH. We are expected to appreciate these limited releases even thou they are nothing close to what we had grown accustomed to and desire in our PC games.
I am supposed to appreciate the fact that i can rent my own server even thou i cant control shit other then selecting between hard core & old school mode? Thanks but no thanks. You limited release's do nothing more then make the games boring after just a short time playing. The maps get old quick running the same ones over and over. Switching modes isnt a very consumer friendly option either because i know what game type i like to play. Why should i have to change? How about you (the dev) go back to producing a game which you know the entire PC community will enjoy instead of force feeding me what you want me to play.
The way i see it, we (PC community) are on life support at this time and our only chance of surviving is with Treyarch & the release of COD:Black Ops. I like what i am hearing from Trey up to this point even thou it has been very limited. I like the dedicated server announcement but i want details as to what they interpret dedicated servers to mean. I have faith that Trey & JD_2020 will release a game in the same shadow as WaW with true dedicated servers, mod tools and everything else we desire.
I like that Trey has dedicated every employee to the Black Ops project. To me, this eliminates all excuses on why they cant give us what we want. What scares me is i see Trey taking the same sales path as mw-2 did. Each trailer has been released with video from the console. Damn near the same release date. World exclusive trailer revealed during NBA finals and keeping quiet on any PC BO news, all of which fourzerodouche and company did with mw-2.
I dont know where i will turn if Black Ops lets me down. I know one thing is for certain thou, I will not purchase a xbox and become a console queer. That is not a option for me so either they give me what i want or i reckon it's goodbye. My opinion anyways.

I, unfortunately, think you are dead-on. You know you are in a PC game glut when 4-5 year old games are more popular than the recent releases. I hope something fixes this...

We are as much to blame as the developers.
For MW2 we all knew it did not have dedicated servers, but most ( I still have not purchased it ) of the PC community still purchased the game.
Same thing with BF:BC2, we all knew they only would have "limit partner" dedicated servers and no mod tools. But yet most purchased that game as well. ( I do have a copy that was a gift, I never would have bought that one either )
We can bark and post as much as we want. But if we bark and then go buy the game and give them the money any ways they will keep on giving use less and less.
Money talks... hurt the profits and they will start to pay attention. Majority of the people want this or that... but continue to pay for less and less.... so they will continue to supply it willingly.

At the same time as i excuse myself for not being on the forum i can also say that i am actually trying to do something regarding the situation.
I have for a while been working on Rikochet. (Yes, it is ment to be with a K lol) Rikochet is a military fps with some features similar to cod4 and others similar to bfbc2 and some never before seen.
To be sure i started in the right direction my very first items i did was: A serverbrowser with a master server that can be viewed in game as well as on a website A lan browser with a portscanner that will help ppl with tight firewalls to play. Connect through IP Modtools are included since i am using UDK. Ranking can be on or off The game use an internal database for fast settings and a global sql database for licensing and profiles. A downed network from us will however not eliminate people from playing.
We have some kick ass maps in the works, awesome models and i am working every day on the coding.
It will be a game by gamers for gamers. We will soon launch rikochetthegame.com but you can send me ideas and suggestions here as well.

SpacePig my only suggestion at this time would be to ensure you setup some sort of a donation block where people such as us can contribute $$$ to your efforts. I know myself as well as my fellow clansman would gladly contribute our cash for the cause. Looking forward to seeing your work.

Thanks, appreciate to hear that. We do manage at this point though. If you have a way to extend my days with a few hours extra that would be awesome, 3 hours sleep/night and i still feel i dont have enough time coding
